Long time no chat! I apologize for that, my wine lovers. I’ve been off the rails busy and haven’t gotten around to writing out what’s been going on. Let me fill you in on the last couple of months.
I’ve been working on building up the confidence of wine and spirits producers with their Millennial consumers through the Millennial Competition: it’s another passion of mine, sharing knowledge and learning more about other wines and spirits. It’s been a busy month running that side of things, but I was so happy to see your faces at the SCV Underground wine tasting event. Now that I can bring my focus back to harvest, we’re ready to rock and roll with the 2022 vines.
As you know, we’re in the final stages of veraison, when red grapes change from green to purple and white grapes shift to their final color ahead of harvest.
Last year we harvested our estate Sauvignon Blanc on August 24th. This year we predict we’ll harvest about a week and a half later, and the sugar tests I’ll run later this week will tell us for sure.
Our Malibu vines are thriving, absolutely stunning and lush. There’s so much fruit this year, we’re thrilled. This is shaping up to be a truly fabulous year, and I can’t wait to taste these grapes when they’re ready.
We’ve got a few more varieties coming from up and down the California coast as well. Many of you have been asking for a Pinot Noir, and we’re supposed to get some this year, so stay tuned. If you loved our rosé, you’ll get even more this year with our Grenache Gris Rosé. We’re also hoping to finally get our Mourvèdre, which was supposed to arrive last year, that would be an exciting new variety for us to work with.
As we slide into harvest, I’ll be sharing more pictures and videos about what we’re up to at the winery, so keep an eye on our social channels. We’ve also got some fun events coming up, including an LA harvest party, a frozé event, and a wine festival, so check our events page and come join us.
The only other thing I’ll say is that we’re almost out of our 2021 Eds’ Sauvignon Blanc and 2021 Wildflower Rosé, so grab some before they’re gone. These two are two of my personal favorites, and they really showcase the California coastal summer. Enjoy them and share your experience with us.
