Sauvignon Blanc Harvest
Here’s the story behind our Sauvignon Blanc. My father planted the Miracle Vineyard in 2013 with carefully selected Bordeaux grape clones. In 2017 I proposed planting white grapes on an empty hillside, and my father chose Sauvignon Blanc, the favorite white wine amongst our entire family.
The vines went in the ground in March 2018 and needed three full growing seasons before their first harvest. On August 24, 2021, at 6 a.m., our team harvested about half a ton of grapes from Ed’s Vineyard. The fruit reached ideal conditions, 23.5 brix and 3.5 pH, which tells us the ripeness and acidity are already in excellent balance, without needing much adjustment.
The wine went straight into tanks with yeast inoculation, then moved to neutral oak barrels to develop roundness and balance. This won’t be an oaky wine. It’s meant to express the terroir of the Malibu Coast, while honoring Robert Mondavi and the French winemaking traditions that inspired us.
