Supporting Local Businesses
Hi all, hope your week is off to a great start. These past few days I was thinking about the effects of COVID-19 on the local Malibu Coast community.
Several businesses have had to deal with a lot of sudden struggles in recent years: the Woolsey Fire in the fall of 2018, the canyon construction that followed it, and now the pandemic. It’s been difficult to get back to a normal life. So I wanted to use this space to talk about some amazing local businesses that have been a help to AJA, and how you, as a consumer, can help them too.
Cornell Winery
First, I want to talk about Cornell Winery. Founded in 2006, it’s to this day one of LA’s favorite wineries, sitting on a plot of land with a long history in our town of Cornell.
We at AJA love Cornell Winery because of our history with their charming little tasting room, it was one of our very first accounts. When I first started working for AJA, I went over to the winery to sell the current owner, Tim Skogstrom, some wines. It was my first sale. We appreciate Tim and all his efforts to keep the wine shop filled with local wines. He’s always held a big place in the Malibu Coast AVA.
What can you do? The winery is on the way back from the Malibu beaches. If you ever take Kanan Road down to Malibu, pop in on a Saturday or Sunday and buy a local bottle of wine. If you can find seating, they’ve got great outside spots to enjoy a bottle. And you’ll find AJA there too.
Pedalers Fork
Next, another local favorite of ours, Pedalers Fork. It’s a fantastic restaurant with delicious local food, located in Old Town Calabasas, and it’s been a strong AJA supporter from the start. They’ve carried a ton of our wines and love being local supporters. The street tacos are so good, probably my favorite meal, and they have great local coffee too.
What can you do? They just opened their patio back up for dine-in service, which is very exciting, it’s a great spot for lunch with a friend. If you’re not ready for that yet, you can always order takeout and grab a bottle of AJA too.
Wine Splurge
One more for you: one of my favorite e-tailers, Wine Splurge. I love Wine Splurge because the owner has a true message. Mike Melancon, the owner, created this company as a way to help small wineries like mine get on the map. His goal is to introduce people to great wines they likely wouldn’t have found otherwise.
What can you do? You can order wine from Mike shipped all over the US, and his shipping is free. It’s a great way to try new wines from the comfort of your own couch.
Cheers,
Amanda
